I’ve finally brought in a 2004 BMW M3 CSL with just 20,000 km on the odometer — and for me, this car is truly something special.

The CSL is not just an M3. It stands for Coupe Sport Leichtbau, a philosophy built around weight reduction and pure driving feel. BMW removed everything unnecessary to sharpen the experience: a carbon fiber roof, carbon intake, lightweight body panels, thinner glass, and almost no sound insulation. Even the trunk and doors are different from a regular M3.

Under the hood is the legendary S54 naturally aspirated inline-six, one of the greatest engines BMW has ever made. It lives at high revs, sounds raw and mechanical, and delivers power without turbos or artificial tricks. The gearbox is SMG — aggressive, a bit brutal at times, but exactly how it should be in a car like this.

The CSL drives differently. The steering is sharp and alive, the suspension is stiff but incredibly precise, and the car constantly communicates with the driver. This is not a comfort-focused car — it’s about focus, control, and emotion. That’s exactly why the CSL is so highly valued by both collectors and drivers who actually use their cars.

What makes this example even more special is its condition and mileage. 20,000 km is extremely rare for a CSL. Most cars have lived hard lives on track or have been heavily modified. This one remains as close to original and preserved as possible.

For me, this BMW is more than just a car. It’s a piece of an era when engineers built cars for drivers, not for marketing. A naturally aspirated engine, rear-wheel drive, minimal electronics, and maximum character. That’s exactly why cars like this are truly special.
