In 1964, Porsche introduced the 911 as a more powerful, 6-cylinder successor to its popular 4-cylinder 356 sports car. While the 911 would go on to become one of the longest running, continually evolving sports cars of all time, perhaps its most significant evolution came about in 1975. Throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s, Porsche invested a lot of work into the development of turbocharging for its racing cars, including the 911. With an eye towards creating a turbocharged 911 for competition in the FIA’s Group 4 category, Porsche began the process of homologating a turbocharged version of the 911 for the street in 1974, internally codenamed 930.

First offered to the public in 1975, the 930—or more commonly known as the 911 Turbo—was powered by the same 3.0L flat-6 motor used in the Carrera RS 3.0, but it was now supplemented with a single KKK turbocharger generating 0.7 bar of boost. Over the next 30 years, the 911 turbo went through many generational evolutions before the 997 edition was debuted at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show. In addition to a wider, more aggressive-looking body, the new 997 edition also benefited from a retractable rear wing and the addition of cooling vents on the wider rear quarter panels.

For the first time, the 997 Turbo utilized twin BorgWarner VTG turbochargers with variable geometry vanes that could change their angle of attack with exhaust speed to reduce turbo lag. With 473 HP, the new 997 Turbo was capable of accelerating from 0-62 MPH in a scant 3.9 seconds. This 2007 Porsche 911 Turbo (997) is finished in factory Basalt Black Metallic with a matching black interior. Equipped with the Sport Chrono package and rare power sunroof option, this most potent 911’s performance benefits from all-wheel drive and a 5-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission, as well as an ERG and catalytic converter delete.

Rolling on low-profile tires and 19-inch OEM turbo forged aluminum wheels, creature comforts include Porsche GPS navigation, a six-disc CD changer, 4-weel ventilated power disc brakes with drilled and slotted rotors and 6-piston red brake calipers, and rack-and-pinion power steering.
