Hailing from a private California Porsche collection, this vibrant 1974 Porsche 911 shows only 22,144 miles on the odometer. Treated to a recent professional paint application in factory-correct Code 137 Lime Green, it is fitted with a “whale tail” rear decklid spoiler, a front chin spoiler, a complete set of Fuchs alloy wheels mounted on 205/55×16 radial tires and the bold iconic “Carrera” script along both sides of the body. The car has undergone a complete rebuild of the engine, transmission, axles, brakes, steering and fuel system. Additionally, a “short-throw” short shifter linkage has been added, and the entire engine compartment has been detailed.
The monochromatic black interior has been completely refurbished with a new headliner, a rear-seat delete motif covered in the correct carpet material, Carrera RS-style door cards with the appropriate leather straps devoid of the standard armrest, and a Momo leather-covered steering wheel. Model year 1974 would bring about a major change in the Porsche 911 with the introduction of the front- and rear-mounted raised height “impact-bumpers” mandated by the Federal government. Given the factory internal designation of “G-series” 911, they are referred to in the inner enthusiast sanctum as the “short-hood” model to differentiate it from the previous generation’s “long-hood” models.
Also new for model year 1974 was the 2.7L engine, an enlarged version of those found in previous years. Likewise, ever stringent safety standards required taller seats with an integrated headrest to protect the driver and passenger from rear impact neck whiplash. Additional safety items included automatic seatbelts with a shoulder harness and heavier padding on the instrument panel, switches and steering wheel hub. This 1974 Porsche 911 is still instantly recognizable by its unmistakable teardrop silhouette, and it remains a coveted, classic, grand-touring sports car to this day.
