Introduced some 43 years after the unveiling of the iconic 911 Carrera 2.7 RS, the 2016 Porsche 911 GT3 RS not only carries on the performance ethos of its forefather but intensifies it exponentially. This is a car that has lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife 8 seconds faster than the LMP-based Carrera GT. The featured 2016 Porsche 911 GT3 RS is in “as-new” showroom condition with only 5,528 original miles and pays homage to its motorsports heritage with its distinctive Martini livery. The interior is appointed in black leather with Lava Orange accents, a white gauge cluster and carbon-fiber door-sill guards.
Based on the current 991-generation platform, the 2016 911 GT3 RS immediately distinguishes itself from its predecessors with the wide body shared with its sister Turbo. The Turbo body enabled increased mechanical grip realized through wider contact-patch area that equals a 918 Spyder—specifically 325/30×21-inch tires mounted on 12.5-inch by 20-inch wheels in the rear and 265/30×20-inch tires mounted on 9.5-inch by 20-inch wheels in the front. The Turbo body also dramatically increased the high-speed aerodynamic downforce without sacrificing its slippery .34 coefficient of drag.
This was achieved through the front-fender louvered vents that extract unwanted air from the wheel wells (thereby creating a low-pressure zone in the front), an extended front chin spoiler to add frontal downforce, an increased rear wing with side fences to add rear downforce and a 300mm “gully” in the front hood and roof area to help manage and direct overhead air passage. The car is also optioned with “Big Yellows,” extra-large 410mm brake calipers that are fitted to carbon-ceramic disc brakes. The rear fender-mounted side scoops now serve as “ram-air” induction channels that feed the 500 HP normally aspirated 4.0L flat-6 engine.
