The Porsche GT3 has always been a focused “track-attack” machine that just happened to be street legal. These are cars built for the automotive enthusiast who places a premium on the sublime driving experience that delivers race-car capability in terms of acceleration, handling, braking and high-speed stability. As a follow-up to the already successful Porsche 911 GT3 991.1, the RS variant first appeared in 2016. Although built with many of the same parts and components of the GT3, the RS version is a significantly different car. The most obvious difference was the new body shell sourced from the 911 Turbo that provided major opportunities for aerodynamic and mechanical improvements.
The wider rear fenders allowed for an increased rear track and wider tires. The rear-fender side scoops—originally used to feed the intercoolers on the Turbo—were now employed on the GT3 RS to serve as ram-air conduits to the naturally aspirated engine. The front fenders featured prominent extractor vents that served to evacuate the high pressure that builds up in the front wheel-well housing. The front splitter was fenced along its vertical leading edge, properly directing air-flow. The rear consisted of a “Gurney-flap” integrated into the rear decklid with a large overhead rear wing which had prominent side fences to prevent air spillage.
The cumulative effect of these changes doubled the aerodynamic downforce of the RS over that of the GT3 and delivers a substantial increase to high-speed stability and grip. The mechanical changes over the GT3 included an increase in displacement and horsepower—4.0L/500 HP versus 3.8L/475 HP. This 2016 Porsche 911 GT3 RS is finished in paint-to-sample Mexico-Blue fitted with 20-inch center-lock wheels. The interior is a contrasting black with gray inserts. The car has only 521 original miles and is factory equipped with a PDK transmission, carbon-ceramic disc brakes, limited-slip differential, active suspension, air conditioning and the Sport Chrono package.
