The MGA was in a completely different league to its predecessors. A new era sports car in period; it was extremely stylish and proved to be an instant hit and sold more than 13,000 units in the first year of production. The MGA was a true 100-plus miles per hour car in its standard guise; with the period supercharger installed on this particular car, that speed is even more impressive.

This MGA was acquired in 2009 after sitting for more than 20 years with its previous owner. It then embarked on a complete and thorough restoration that saw no detail overlooked. The addition of a period supercharger was desired to bring a reliable increase in both horsepower and torque figures. A 3.9:1 differential gearing setup from a 1964 MGB handles the power distribution. The braking is courtesy of the MGA’s original front disc brakes and the addition of larger MGB rear drum brakes. The restoration is reported as being quite superb in every respect. The restoration cost is stated to be far in excess of replacement cost – making for a very attention-worthy machine that stands out from similar examples.

Finished in red with red leather interior; the carpets are black, as is the accompanying soft-top. The MGA also has a factory removable hardtop that adds to the uncommon nature of this MG. The restored roadster has numerous bespoke performance updates such as a tonneau cover, wire wheels and period driving lights. This is an exceptional 1950s British sports car and the owner relates that it is “one of the best driving, most reliable and fun sports cars of the period.” This MGA comes with its associated British Heritage Trust Certificate, original factory brochure and copies of the owner’s and warranty manuals.

The MGA is further reported as “absolutely superb in every way.” It is said to be eligible for some of the premium historic rallies and will be found as comfortable both on the road, as well as the concours viewing lawn.
