Karif was the name of an African wind, following the Maserati tradition of using wind names for the designation of its GT cars. The Karif was developed with a no-nonsense attitude in mind. The Karif's lines were derived closely from those of the Biturbo Spider, however, a rigid roof was welded on. The aim was to create a stiffer body that would enhance the handling qualities of this shorter wheelbase model.

Between 1988 and 1992, only 221 Maserati Karif Coupes were built by Zagato. Being a light sportscar weighing in at just 1400 kilos and with a powerful 2.8 litre V6 bi - turbo engine that produced 225 bhp, this was definitely a very quick car. Figures suggest a 0-100 km/h (62 mph) came up in only 4.8 seconds!

This wonderfully rare Maserati Karif was first registered on 1st December 1992 and has covered what is believed to be a genuine 9,447 kilometres from new. Judging by the condition of the interior and exterior we believe this to be correct. Presented in red with black leather interior, this Karif is supplied with its original books and manuals within a leather wallet. All EU taxes and duties have been paid on this lot. Buyers should be aware that this lot has formed part of a large private collection and has been stood for some time in a heated environment, as such, some remedial works may be required.

Maserati having built such limited numbers of the Karif, this model is sure to be a collector's item, and this specific car has to be one of the lowest mileage examples in existence.
