“Bat” is the meaning of “Murciélago.” From its launch, this Lamborghini laid claim to the marque’s prestigious history: it was one of the fastest supercars of its era, exceeding 330 km/h thanks to its 6.2-litre, 580 hp V12. Its design was innovative too, with Luc Donckerwolke successfully creating a highly distinctive style that continues to influence current Lamborghinis. The Murciélago belongs to the last generation of supercars that could be ordered with a manual gearbox as standard. The E-Gear transmission became an available option with the arrival of the LP640 in 2006.
Taken with the aesthetics of this new model—so much so that he was willing to add a Lamborghini to his collection of Ferraris—our collector ordered a new example from SAM Twelve in Monaco. Wanting a change from the red of his Ferraris, he opted for a restrained “Blu Hera” finish paired with a black leather interior. The Murciélago was delivered on 8 August 2003. Its first service, at 2,500 km, was carried out by Global Garage on 30 March 2004; on 21 July 2016, when the car had covered 10,866 km, it was entrusted to Lamborghini Menton. Today, it has just 10,905 km from new and is in exceptionally well-preserved condition, rare for this model.
It comes with all its manuals, including the stamped service book. The toolkit, a pair of “Lamborghini” stamped gloves still in their plastic wrapping, the original bulb box and the puncture repair kit are all still in the front trunk. Today, the Murciélago represents an intriguing blend of collectability and avant-garde design—in short, the best of both worlds!
