Built by Multimatic and prepared by the Chip Ganassi Racing team, the new Ford GT swept four top-10 spots in the highly competitive, manufacturer-driven LM GTE class in 2016, including first and third, and – once more – edging out the competition from Maranello – and Stuttgart for good measure.

The GT was born of a skunkworks organized by Raj Nair, Ford executive vice president for product development and chief technical officer. He and a band of enthusiasts among Dearborn's ranks took on the mission of creating an all-new supercar that could not only win on the track but could also be built and sold as a road car, to homologate it for the GTE class. For power, the team chose as its foundation Ford's EcoBoost V6 engine, a powerful, compact unit that had already been modified to produce 450bhp in the F-150 Raptor. Engineers liberated an

additional

197 horsepower through larger turbochargers, new manifolding, and a dry-sump oil system to keep everything lubricated on the track. In Sport, Track and V-Max modes, the GT activates an anti-lag system, which keeps the big turbos spinning, ready for action at a moment's notice. A 7-speed dual-clutch Getrag transaxle, controlled through aluminum shift paddles or allowed to shift for itself, puts all 647bhp to the ground. With launch control activated, the GT can reach 60 mph in a mere 3.2 seconds.

The passenger shell and body panels are constructed of carbon fiber, with front and rear aluminum substructures for strength and light weight. Fully active aerodynamic components improve braking, handling and stability. An active rear spoiler can deploy and adjust its height and pitch angle, and even change its shape, depending on speed and driver input. Shutters in the nose open and close to direct airflow as needed, ensuring that front and rear downforce are always in balance. Four-wheel independent suspension is of the Formula 1 model, with the wheels connected to torsion bars, anti-roll bars and shock absorbers through pushrods and bellcranks. Spring rates vary depending on driving mode.

In Track Mode, the suspension lowers the car by two inches, helping to minimize underbody airflow; in V-Max mode, with all systems optimized for maximum straight-line speed, the GT can achieve 216 mph.

Form and function meet heritage in the GT's design. Every opening, every plane of the body's form contributes to its aerodynamic performance, with nothing indulged merely for appearance's sake. The distinctive flying buttresses channel air around the canopy and over the rear spoiler and provide a route between the intercoolers and the engine's intake plenum. The overall design, while calling to mind the original GT40, is stunningly fresh and modern.

Production began in December 2016 at Multimatic Engineering of Markham, Ontario, with a target of 1,000 cars to be produced over four years, since increased to 1,350 in response to high demand. Potential buyers were invited to submit applications, with credit given for past involvement with the marque.

THE CAR OFFERED

Undoubtedly one of the highlights of The Orange Collection is this magnificent 2019 Ford GT 'Carbon Series.' Any Ford GT is sure to elevate the pulse of a nearby petrolhead, and this car cranks up the energy courtesy of its spectacular, one-off, Epic Orange paintwork. The color, a $25,000 option, is a unique shade that cannot be ordered on another GT thanks to Ford's 'Exclusive Color Palette' program.

Beyond the fabulous color scheme, this car features Equipment Group 100A Carbon Series options, which include exposed carbon fiber stripes, carbon fiber wheels and sills, lightweight titanium exhaust, a lightweight engine cover, and 6-point harness anchors for the owners who want to drive their GT to a track day. The package saves an estimated 40lbs over a standard GT, while output from the 3.5-liter Ecoboost V6 remains the same at a heady 647 bhp. This option package was reportedly limited to 40-50 cars per year.

The interior is all business, with black Alcantara-upholstered sport seats, lots of glossy carbon fiber accents and a cockpit that puts you right on the Mulsannse straight. Showing just 4,092 miles at the time of cataloguing, it remains in excellent condition, with only the lightest signs of use evident on close inspection. A body-color fire extinguisher and fitted car cover are included, as are a clean CARFAX report, and digital copy of the window sticker.

The Ford GT embodies the pinnacle of sports car performance, with direct lineage to its Le Mans class-winning LMGTE stablemate and enviable heritage of Ford's historic overall Le Mans wins. The Ford GT brings the best in contemporary motorsport technology to the street in a most stunning manner.
