Succeeding the brilliant Testarossa in 1991, Ferrari’s comprehensively updated 512 TR brought a power increase to 428 HP at 6,750 engine revolutions. Comprehensive updates to the driveline, brakes, engine mounting, tires and interior further elevated the experience. The Testarossa’s designers at Pininfarina also contributed body updates that better integrated the spoilers and engine cover, along with other enhancements providing more of a familial resemblance to the design of Ferrari’s contemporary V-8 powered 348. By 1992, 512 TR pricing was from $212,160 in U.S. funds. Over just three model years, as few as 408 examples of the 512 TR were produced for the U.S. market.
Sporting iconic Pininfarina-designed bodywork, this 1992 Ferrari 512 TR is appropriately finished in Ferrari’s trademark Rosso Corsa (Racing Red) paint, accented by Scuderia Ferrari front-fender shields. The race-derived 4.9L/428 HP flat 12-cylinder engine breathes out through a dual-exhaust system and, of course, features red cam covers, given the car’s Testarossa roots. Power and performance are delivered via a 5-speed manual transmission with Ferrari’s classical gated shift quadrant and rear transaxle. The Beige leather interior features bucket seats, Veglia instruments, a clock, “Cavallino Rampante” floor mats and an Alpine AM/FM/cassette stereo with a remote CD changer.
Stopping power is provided by 4-wheel ventilated disc brakes sporting black-finished calipers with white Ferrari scripts and residing behind a set of five-spoke alloy wheels wearing Ferrari Prancing Horse center caps and new Continental tires.
