It is said that good things come to those who wait. In April 1989, a gentleman in Southern California put down a sizable deposit toward the purchase of a new Testarossa.
The estimated delivery timeframe for his new Ferrari? Four years. So, he waited.
Luckily, he would not have to wait quite that long. As documented by original purchase paperwork on file, he took delivery of his new car via Ferrari of Monterey in Seaside, California, in March 1992. By that point, Testarossa production had ended, but the Ferrari 512 TR he brought home was an improvement in every meaningful way: Debuting in January 1992 at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Pininfarina’s iconic wedge design was subtly refined, and the model benefited from performance enhancements to its mid-mounted flat-12 engine (now producing 428 brake horsepower), as well as a revised chassis with a lower center of gravity for more confident handling.
But what made his 512 TR particularly special was its striking factory color combination of Blu Sera Metallizzato over Crema leather. Only 28 cars were factory-finished in this alluring exterior color worldwide; of these, only six were delivered new to the United States market. Further, only two of these cars featured the Blu Sera/Crema combination seen here. Built in July 1991, it was clearly a relatively early production example. The accompanying original window sticker notes a $195,600 suggested retail price for the Ferrari, which included a set of factory fitted luggage.
The 512 TR’s fortunate owner cherished the car for the next 34 years. Gran Touring Classics of Long Beach was entrusted with its care, with invoices on file spanning 2003–2008 noting a major engine service in 2003, an air conditioning system overhaul, work to the starting and electrical systems, and remedy of “sticky” interior components. Concurrent state inspection records confirm a history of regular use and maintenance. In preparation for the sale, it returned to Gran Touring Classics in June 2025 for a major, engine-out service (and fitment of new Michelin Pilot Sport tires) completed at a cost of $28,414.73.
Despite this diligent care, the car was driven only sparingly, and at the time of cataloguing it displayed fewer than 7,810 miles—a figure reflected in the cars excellent, highly original state of cosmetic preservation. Indeed, this car is understood to be the lowest-mileage US-market Blu Sera 512 TR—in addition to being among the best-preserved, lowest-mileage 512 TRs of any specification, in any color, presently available for acquisition.
Offered now by its original owner, and accompanied by original deposit slip and purchase order, delivery documentation, its window sticker, service invoices, and accessories catalogue, Ferrari brochures, and a selection of Ferrari Club letters and magazines from over the years, as well as the tool kit, manuals, and a five-piece set of factory luggage still in its original boxes—and even pre-delivery Polaroids of this very car!—this low-mileage 512 TR would be a spectacular candidate for continued preservation and presentation at marque shows and events.
