We may be entirely wrong but we reckon there can only be a handful of people at CarFest North who can afford the $36 million or so required to buy an original Ferrari 250 GTO and one of them already has one! But one thing is certain and that is the fact that the 250 GTO was one of the most stunningly beautiful cars ever built, so why not hang onto that fabulous shape and build a "recreation' on a marginally smaller budget?
This is not the first recreation or evocation of a Ferrari that we have seen at our auctions and, despite having what can best be described as a "modest' 1.6 litre 16V engine it looks the part. It also goes to prove that all Ferraris don't have to be red! The 'donor' car was a very sound , rust free 1998 Mazda MX5,
The vendor describes the car as being in generally good condition all round. He goes on to say that the all the electrics are 100% and the engine and gearbox are perfect. The only suggestion he has is that the car would benefit from a pair of fresh front seats.It has had a recent service and also comfortably completed a 2,300 mile "road trip' with no snags at all. The car has a valid MOT until 10/05/13.The history file is bit slim with a handful of MOT certificates.
OK so this isn't a Ferrari 250 GTO but it looks great, goes well and should confuse lots of people!
For less than the cost of a second hand Ford Mondeo this is a distinctive fun car to be enjoyed....
