Owning a Ferrari 250 GTO is out of reach for almost everyone. Driving something that looks and sounds remarkably close to one, however, is a different story.
This 250 GTO re-creation began life as a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTE before its chassis was shortened and a new body was formed using a buck based on an actual GTO. The opportunity to study a genuine car during repairs helped the builders achieve an unusually accurate shape. Its aluminum body was then hand-formed in period-correct fashion.
Underneath the replica-style body is serious Ferrari hardware. The 3.0-liter Colombo V-12 was rebuilt with high-compression pistons and a dry-sump system, while its six Weber carburetors were overhauled. Disc brakes, 15-inch Borrani wire wheels and a five-speed gearbox reinforced with Tremec internals complete the mechanical package. Power is estimated at around 300 hp.
The car was comprehensively refreshed by California specialist Patrick Ottis in 2020, whose restoration work has earned multiple Pebble Beach trophies.
Only 36 original 250 GTOs were built, making them among the world’s most valuable cars. So why risk driving one worth a fortune when you can experience something remarkably similar? Would you actually take this V-12 tribute on a winding back road? The BaT auction ends October 12.
