The Vantage name has been associated with high-performance versions of Aston Martin’s grand-touring models since the mid-1960s, beginning with the 1961 DB4 inline-6-powered coupe that made a certain British spy a household name. That might sound overly simple compared to many of today’s hyper-complex performance automobiles, but it delivers 510 HP at 6,500 RPM and 420 lb-ft of torque at 5,750 RPM (copious servings of real-world power) through a 6-speed manual transaxle and a sturdy limited-slip differential to 19×11-inch rear silver forged-aluminum wheels fitted with Vantage-specific Pirelli P-Zero tires. The performance enabled by this combination is formidable: 0-60 MPH comes up in 4.2 seconds, and the Vantage tops out at 190 MPH.
The Vantage is an athletic machine with taut handling thanks to 4-wheel independent suspension using upper and lower A-arms, coil springs and the electronically controlled shock absorbers that are part of its dynamic stability-control system and carbon-ceramic ventilated disc brakes—complete with yellow-painted calipers—for immense stopping power. It is also as well appointed as one would expect from a hand-built, bespoke Aston Martin, its quality Jet Black exterior finish matched inside with Obsidian Black Connolly leather, Alcantara headliner and accents, and Piano Black wood veneers.
