After installing GiroDisc steel brake rotors and Pagid Racing brake pads on a Porsche GT3 RS, it’s important to properly bed them in before any serious track driving. Not in a “drive 1,000 km gently” way — but correctly and efficiently.

Below is a proven, real-world procedure with clear numbers.

Total Distance

The entire process takes around 25–35 km of controlled driving. That’s more than enough.

Stage 1. Initial bedding (5–7 km)

Purpose: allow the pads and rotors to mechanically mate.

  • normal driving
  • speeds up to 80–100 km/h
  • light braking only
  • no hard stops
  • no aggressive inputs

At this stage, no heat is required.

Stage 2. Main heat cycles (15–20 km)

Now we start forming the proper friction layer.

One cycle:

  1. Accelerate to 100–110 km/h
  2. Apply smooth, progressive braking down to 60–70 km/h

(no ABS, no panic braking)

  1. Fully release the brake pedal
  2. Drive steadily at 120–130 km/h
  3. Allow brakes to cool for 1–2 minutes without touching the pedal

👉 One cycle ≈ 2–3 km

Repeat:

  • 5–6 cycles

By now, the brakes are hot and working, but not overheated.

Stage 3. Final bedding / light baking (5–8 km)

Increase the load slightly.

  • accelerate to 120–130 km/h
  • brake a bit harder, still controlled
  • fully release the brakes
  • drive for 2–3 minutes to cool

Repeat 2–3 times.

Stage 4. Full cooldown (5–10 minutes)

This step is critical.

  • drive calmly
  • avoid braking entirely if possible
  • allow brakes to cool naturally while moving

Only after this is it safe to stop or park the car.

What NOT to do ❌ stop immediately after hard braking ❌ hold the brake pedal while stationary ❌ perform emergency stops on cold pads ❌ park with hot brakes

Summary

  • total distance: 25–35 km
  • main heat cycles: 5–6
  • final heat cycles: 2–3
  • cooldown: 5–10 minutes

After this process, Pagid Racing pads transfer material correctly onto GiroDisc rotors, pedal feel becomes consistent, braking is predictable, and the Porsche GT3 RS is ready for proper track use the next day — without surprises.

This is the correct minimum procedure. No more, no less.
