    Toyota Supra Turbo, 1993

Chassis No.: JT2JA82J8P0002636 $75,000 | High bid • Exterior: Red • Interior: Black • 3.0L V-6 engine • 6-speed manual transmission • Single turbo conversion kit professionally tuned • 38,714 miles • Service records • Must be sold to an out of state resident or a licensed dealer The Toyota Supra started life innocently enough based on the high-volume seller Celica. Known as the Celica Supra, it looked very similar to the Celica but featured a longer front end to accommodate the larger, inline 6-cylinder engine. Introduced in 1978 for the Japanese market, it was first sold abroad in 1979. Offered with an automatic or manual transmission, the Celica Supra came standard with 4-wheel disc brakes, a very capable chassis that provided excellent road-holding abilities and ride, and a host of standard features that made it a smart choice. In typical Toyota fashion, refinement and improvements continued over the years, and the Celica Supra became a household name with the performance car community. While it was aimed as a competitor for the Datsun/Nissan Z, it always offered a more conservative, upscale feel—a philosophy that appealed to a wider scope of buyers and worked well for Toyota. Interestingly, Datsun applied that philosophy to the Z in the late 1970s. In a way, it was as if the Z was chasing the Celica Supra to compete with it rather than the other way around, a slight twist considering the Z was the more established of the two. Regardless, the Celica Supra gave customers another idea for a spirited car and it sold well enough that Toyota released a second generation in 1981 as a much more chiseled and aggressive looking car that somewhat set the tone for GT car designs throughout the decade. Featuring pop-up headlights and an angular front end, the new design largely broke away from the conservative look of the first generation, but it maintained the front engine, rear drive, hatchback, four-seat platform that made the name popular. For 1993, Toyota pulled out all the stops and releases what became known as the penultimate Supra. It was strictly a two-seat car with the established front engine, rear drive hatchback formula, but the chassis, engine, transmission, steering geometry and more were so refined that it was quickly regarded as one of the world’s best sports cars. In fact, it gave supercar manufacturers something to worry about. This 1993 Supra is a two-owner car from new and only shows 30,000 miles. Professionally modified, the car features a 3.0L V-6 engine with a 6-speed manual transmission and a single turbo conversion kit that helps the engine build 440 HP. For comparison, the factory stock fourth-generation Supra twin turbo produced 276 HP. It was good for 0-60 MPH times under 4 seconds and could top out somewhere in the 170 MPH zone, though some said even more. Regardless, it lends an idea of what might be in store with a full 440 HP on tap. https://www.mecum.com/lots/488327/1993-toyota-supra-turbo/
