Like those first cars to bear the McLaren name, the lightweight, open-roofed, mid-engine 2022 McLaren Elva delivers an intoxicating driving experience of exceptional purity. The lightest road-going McLaren ever, the Elva employs a carbon fiber monocoque comprising three main panels forming a low-profile shape uncluttered even by a windscreen, while incorporating a deployable rollover protection system. Proactive Chassis Control II complements the Elva’s double-wishbone adaptive damper suspension, which features launch, traction and electronic stability controls. Lightning-quick electro-hydraulic steering and sintered carbon ceramic disc brakes with ABS connect the driver to the road with uncanny directness and undiluted feel. Carbon fiber dihedral doors rise elegantly from the car’s curved sills, providing easy entry and exit. While it may sound like a cliché, the Elva’s shape was carved by the wind, but the design goes beyond previous practice with another McLaren first: the Active Air Management System (AAMS), which uses two sculpted elements to channel high-speed airflow over the cockpit for maximum comfort and control, all while generating substantial downforce for enhanced handling. Additionally, the full-width carbon fiber active rear spoiler automatically changes position to maintain perfect dynamic balance, while also serving duty as an air brake. It also has a Formula 1-inspired Auto Drag Reduction mode to reduce drag and increase acceleration. All these exotic features play to one central element: the driver, at whose command is the Elva’s incredibly powerful 4.0L M840TR twin-turbocharged V-8 engine, which delivers 804 HP and 590 lb-ft of torque through a dual-clutch 7-speed automatic transmission. Form-fitting carbon fiber seats and Ultrafabric materials provide an environment that centers attention on the connection between driver, machine and road. This 2022 McLaren Elva’s iridescent Pacific Colourstream exterior finish dazzles onlookers with its ever-changing reaction to light and shadow, while its center-mounted quad exhaust system provides a sonic boom reminiscent of its thundering Can-Am forerunners. Of all McLaren’s wonderful creations, the Elva is undoubtedly the most sensational. https://www.mecum.com/lots/1146200/2021-mclaren-elva-roadster/

    McLaren Elva Roadster, 2021

Chassis No.: SBM26ACA6MW815122 $1,600,000 | High bid • Odometer: 90 miles • Engine: V-8 • Transmission: Automatic • Exterior: Pacific Color Stream • Interior: Black • Body: Roadster • 90 miles • Bespoke carbon fiber body • Active air management system • Carbon fiber dihedral doors • 4.0L/804 HP M840TR twin-turbocharged V-8 engine • Automatic transmission • Pacific Color Stream exterior • Black interior • Ultrafabric materials • Carbon fiber seats The McLaren Elva is, without question, one of the most outlandish and evocative automobiles ever conceived, let alone ever to hit the road. If that claim sounds outlandish in itself, consider the name’s historical roots, which date back to the United States Road Racing Championship, which begat the legendary Can-Am racing series of the late 1960s and early ‘70s. The original McLaren Elva—the name derived from the French “elle va” (she goes)—was founder Bruce McLaren’s opening salvo in the Can-Am and the progenitor to the booming winged racers that soon thoroughly dominated that series and established the McLaren brand as a perennial winner. As arguably the most daring machine in the modern McLaren lineup, this 2021 McLaren Elva roadster is certainly worthy of that history. Fresh at just 90 miles, its bespoke carbon fiber body is a featherweight envelope stretched tautly over a refined version of McLaren’s proprietary Monocell II chassis and finished in eye-popping Pacific Color Stream paint. The most startling visual aspect is the absence of a greenhouse of any form—no windshield, side or back glass at all. Twin prominent pods protect the occupants from behind, and an innovative vent in the nose rises at speed to project a curtain of air from in front to guide the oncoming breeze up and over the passengers. Powered by a 4.0L/804 HP M840TR twin-turbocharged, quad-exhaust V-8 engine driving a paddle-shifted automatic transmission, the Elva employs McLaren’s typically advanced Proactive Chassis Control II, double-wishbone adaptive-damper suspension and sintered carbon ceramic ABS braking systems. Electro-hydraulic steering, auto-drag reduction and launch, traction and stability controls are all integrated into the Elva’s space-age handling suite. Entering via carbon fiber dihedral doors, occupants are invited into the bespoke open cockpit to settle into carbon fiber seats upholstered and surrounded by black Ultrafabric upholstery; here is where the driving experience departs from other McLarens, with a panoramic view spanning the entire horizon as the scenery flies by. https://www.mecum.com/lots/554503/2021-mclaren-elva-roadster/
