Chassis No.: ZA9RU31B0XLA12468 Auction: Monterey 2024 Auction date: August 17, 2024 Lot No.: S77 $401,500 | Sold • Odometer: 16,264 miles • Engine: V-12 • Transmission: Manual • Exterior: Blue • Interior: Beige • Body: Roadster • All-wheel drive • Scissor doors • 5.7L/530 HP V-12 engine • 5-speed manual transmission • Blue exterior • Beige leather interior • Gated shifter • Must be sold to an out of state resident or licensed dealer Finished in blue with a beige leather interior, this 1999 Lamborghini Diablo VT Roadster features the famous skyward-reaching scissor doors, a removable roof panel and polished alloy wheels wrapped in low-profile tires. The 5.7L/530 HP V-12 engine and 5-speed manual transmission are harnessed by Lamborghini’s all-wheel drive Viscous Traction system, or simply “VT,” derived from the LM002 off-road vehicle. The interior is beautifully appointed with bucket seats, a gated shifter, VDO gauges, carpeted Lamborghini “Raging Bull”-branded floor mats and more to create a luxurious environment that’s great for any drive. Introduced at the Bologna Motor Show in December 1995, the Diablo roadster represented yet another step in building some of the most outrageously styled cars ever made. To create the roadster, Lamborghini implemented a number of changes above and beyond just cutting the roof off. It was truly an engineering masterpiece. The car received a new front bumper, new driving and marker lights, a new windscreen that was more dramatically raked with new A-pillars, new doors and beveled glass, new cooling ducts, a new engine cover, new body air intakes, new exhaust covers with restyled exhaust pipes, a new rear bumper, new rear wheel arches and new 17-inch wheels. All told, the effort gave the roadster a very slippery look that recalled the sportiness of bygone era roadsters. Aside from the styling, however, the body and chassis were stiffened without raising the weight of the car. The end result is an open-top car with equal rigidity to the closed Diablo coupe. Further exemplifying the engineering efforts bestowed upon the roadster, the roof panel weighs just 16.5-pounds. Crafted of two carbon fiber panels separated by insulation, it’s light enough that one person could lift it off; however, the size of the panel might call for two people, just to be on the safe side. For 1998, the 17-inch wheels were enlarged to 18 inches to accommodate larger brakes, and the engine delivered 530 HP. The Diablo roadster was a lot more car than most people knew. https://www.mecum.com/lots/1124070/1999-lamborghini-diablo-vt-roadster/

Restyled by Chrysler, which took majority ownership of the company from the Mimran Brothers in 1987, the Diablo was the result of three restyling exercises, the final edition coming from Chrysler studios in Michigan. It’s been said that Marcello Gandini, who designed the Lamborghini Miura and Countach before working on the Diablo, was so upset by the restyled car that he took the original styling concept and turned it into the Cizeta-Moroder V16T. As if that weren’t dramatic enough, the requirements for the new car called for a huge leap in performance, durability, comfort, drivability and an overall sense of modernity and futurism. Some specifics of the Diablo would be a top speed of at least 196 MPH and the ability to idle in the warmest of weather with the air conditioning on without overheating. The electrical system needed to be comprised of better components, and the clutch pedal needed to be slightly easier to depress. All of the goals were achieved, and early tests with the new 5.7L/485 HP DOHC 48-valve V-12 engine revealed it could top 202 MPH, making it the fastest street-legal production Lamborghini ever built. The company was also very diligent at improving upon the Diablo with various sub-models and engineering enhancements through the years, one being the all-wheel drive Diablo VT introduced in 1993. This 1995 Diablo VT hails from the estate of Arlen Ness, a famous motorcycle designer, builder and entrepreneur. Showing nearly 44,955 kilometers, the car is finished in red with quad exhaust tips, polished alloy wheels paired with BF Goodrich g-Force T/A tires and a rear wing. The black leather interior is piped in red and features the signature gated shifter for the 5-speed manual transmission, air conditioning, power windows, a clock, an Alpine AM/FM/CD stereo and instrumentation including a tachometer. Speed is scrubbed off by Brembo 4-wheel disc brakes with black calipers, and the hydraulics for the scissor doors have recently been serviced. https://www.mecum.com/lots/520681/1995-lamborghini-diablo-vt/
Chassis No.: ZA9RU31B3WLA12866 Auction: Monterey 2022 Auction date: August 20, 2022 Lot No.: S113 $330,000 | Sold • Exterior: Rosso Red • Interior: Snowcorn • 26,412 miles; metric odometer reads 42,506 kilometers • 5.7L/523 HP V-12 engine • All-wheel drive • 5-speed manual transmission • Factory front lift suspension • Finished in Rosso Red with Snowcorn interior with Red piping • Chrome factory 18 inch 5-spoke wheels • 1 of less than 200 were imported into the U.S. • Recent service documented including comprehensive fluids and filter changes • Custom floor mats • New battery • Car cover included • Two tool kits and pouches • Must be sold to an out of state resident or licensed dealer. Development for the successor of the infinitely popular Lamborghini Countach began in 1985 with Project 132, a concept that would go into production as the Diablo. The new car had a multitude of expectations upon it, one being that it was capable of at least 196 MPH. Other demands included the ability to stand in traffic without overheating, an air conditioning system that worked very well, improved fit and finish, enhanced electricals and a bevy of amenities that would create a car that was not only blisteringly fast, but comfortable and luxurious. Marcello Gandini was contracted to pen the design, a natural fit as he shaped both the Countach and the Miura. At the time, the company was financed by Swiss-based investment leaders Jean Claude and Patrick Mimran, but by 1987, Chrysler became the major shareholder of Lamborghini and elected to bring the design of the Diablo to Detroit for further refinement. This infuriated Gandini, who took the original Project 132 design for the Cizeta-Morodor V16T. While many cringed at Chrysler breaking away from the radically chiseled-edge styling, some said the Diablo brought a fascinating blend of both Countach and Miura design cues while giving it a unique shape all its own. This 1998 Diablo Roadster VT is spectacularly desirable for a number of reasons, including the all-wheel drive chassis and roadster body. This is largely one of the reasons less than 200 were imported into the United States. Positioned behind the passenger compartment is a 5.7L/523 HP V-12 engine and a 5-speed manual transmission using a viscous center differential to drive all four wheels, which made it one of the best-handling Lamborghinis ever built. Recent service documents show the car has had a comprehensive fluid and filter exchange, and the car has received a new battery. Having covered just over 42,500 kilometers and finished in Rosso Red, it is fitted with the factory front-lift suspension and chrome, factory, 18-inch, 5-spoke wheels, a rear spoiler. The interior is upholstered in Snowcorn with Red piping, and custom floor mats cover the carpets. To be sold with two tool kits with pouches, this 1998 Diablo VT also comes with a car cover. https://www.mecum.com/lots/520620/1998-lamborghini-diablo-vt-roadster/
