The first generation of Commodore saw the light of day in 1967. It was based on the Rekord, top of the range of the German brand, whose lights, chrome, but above all the front and rear of the car were redesigned. The Commodore A gave way to a new version in 1972, the Commodore B. Wanting to assert itself as the new top of the range of the firm, only the 6 cylinder block was retained, available in 2.5L and 2.8L, developing up to to 160 horsepower in the 2800 GS / E version, which is 15 horsepower more than in the BMW 525. Two bodies are in the catalog, the 4-door sedan and the coupe. A 3-speed automatic or 4-speed mechanical gearbox were available, the latter being the best choice to exploit its sporting capacities and go close to the announced 200 kph.
