Dodge Challenger in Dubai: The Ultimate Highway Cruiser
Having driven my Challenger for over a year here, its quality is a mixed bag. The interior feels solid on smooth highways like the one to Abu Dhabi, with comfortable seats that make the journey a joy. However, on some of Dubai's older roads, you hear more creaks and rattles than you'd expect, which can be disappointing. As for driving, it's a love-hate relationship. The powerful engine is fantastic for effortless overtaking on Sheikh Zayed Road, and the car feels stable and planted at high speeds. But its low stance is a constant headache. I have to plan my routes around speed bumps, and navigating tight, multi-level parking garages, especially in busy areas like Downtown, requires intense concentration and often a spotter. It's not a practical daily driver, but for the sheer thrill and presence it offers on Dubai's iconic roads, I've learned to live with its flaws. The experience is unlike anything else.

This very-limited edition vehicle from Dodge could actually be considered the continuation of the Hemi Darts of the past, except the Darts were never street-legal, not as stylish, nor, when new, near as fast. The SRT Demon in the Vannoy collection is one of the 3,300 total built and has been driven only 37 miles since new. Capable of running under the 10-second range in optimal stock tune, a big part of any Demon is the extra-cost ($1 at the time) Demon crate package. Those who failed to get the speed equipment add-on fast stuff have regretted it, and this example will include the Demon crate in its sale. Under the hood is a thundering, no-holds-barred 6.2L/840 HP Hemi V-8 engine. Supercharged and capable of actually hoisting the front wheels off the pavement, it is backed by the TorqueFlite automatic transmission, and this car came new with the Drag mode suspension, Line/Lock, after-run cooler, launch assist control, a transbrake and torque reserve. The SRT drive options are helped by three-mode adaptive damping and 4-piston lightweight Brembo brakes, and the performance shift indicator signals each shift point if desired. This car has the Pitch Black exterior with a matched black interior, featuring the full complement of Laguna Alcantara seats, with heated and ventilated front seats and the rear passenger seating. Further differentiating it from the old Dart is the dual-zone climate control, a power tilt/telescopic wheel, premium audio equipment with CarPlay and Sirius capability, and the rear back-up camera. The original window sticker remains with this car as well. The crew at Dodge made their point, and this special car, like the more race-bred versions of yore, would not be repeated. Dreams can come true with this stunning 2014 rendering of the 392 CI Hemi-powered Dodge, as it is everything from back in the day and more. Featuring a plethora of great options and components, the SRT-8 combinations offered by Chrysler are far more than cosmetic as much of the equipment used is based around real-world performance testing and the desire for durability under serious conditions. Coupling the name HEMI allowed the brand to further reach for the legacy of the past, and the Challenger’s styling has been well-received from every quarter since it originally made its debut. This example features the blackout spoiler package, grille and rear panel, but perhaps the first thing noticed is the upgraded HEMI-logo functional Shaker air intake coming through the hood. One of the model’s most famous options from the past, this quivering modern design now covers the 392/470 HP engine, which itself is backed by the 5-speed automatic transmission. Ordered in deluxe form inside as well, this SRT8 Challenger plays host to a black interior with white stitching, the factory sunroof, the tachometer and 180 MPH speedometer in the dash, and the U-Connect stereo with Sirius XM capability. The shifter has been upgraded to a carbon-fiber Pistol Grip-like design. With this package, one also received the SRT-8’s excellently designed suspension pieces, which here include the big 4-wheel Brembo disc brakes. This car rides on black Lexani wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich G-Force Sport tires and has been driven 3,474 miles since new.
