This striking 1973 Volvo P1800 ES was completed at the Göteborg, Sweden-based Volvo factory in a Light Blue Metallic exterior color. The new Sport Wagon was exported to America and was in long term ownership prior to joining the current caretaker's collection. A Porsche enthusiast and restorer, the Volvo seemed like a fun and interesting project to undertake, so a complete restoration was soon started.
The car was completely disassembled and serviced prior to receiving a respray in British Racing Green — a nonoriginal color that presents so beautifully, one would be remiss for thinking it ought to have been. New European chrome bumpers and stainless-steel side spears were fitted, all chrome and stainless trim was polished, while new rubber seals and gaskets were fitted all around the exterior. The interior received fresh Cognac Brown leather front and vinyl rear seats, as well as new door panels, carpets, and headliner — most of it sourced from Sweden.
The car's mechanical components were serviced, the front suspension was rebuilt, springs and shocks were replaced, and all-new brake pads were fitted. Completed early last year, the stunning Volvo made its debut on the show field of the 2021 Quail: A Motorsports Gathering. This is a lovely example of Volvo's classic Sport Wagon, ready for spacious touring in great style. Equipped with the desirable 4-speed overdrive manual gearbox and finished in a smart livery of Green over Tan interior, this Volvo looks and feels just right.
