Volkswagen unveiled the updated T6.1 version of the T6 at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2019. Essentially a mid-cycle refresh, the main updates were electric power steering, which allows for the implementation of more driver assist functions compared to the T6. There were also minor styling updates in the form of a deeper front grille section. The T6.1 also has a new dashboard incorporating updated infotainment systems similar to those used in Volkswagen’s passenger car range, and the ability to specify the ‘Virtual Cockpit’ fully digital instrument cluster first seen on the Golf and Passat.
This stunning one owner T30 Highline was purchased by our vendor with the express intention of converting it to a bespoke camper and the results are stunning. The cost of the high specification manual T30 initially was £34,000 plus VAT alone. Specified in grey, our vendor had the van fully kitted with the ‘Leighton Van Bodykit’ with top of the line load rated alloy wheels with Bilstein Komfort Coilovers and no expense spared on the tyres. ‘No expense spared’ is probably a good description for this example as Westdubs were commissioned for a two-birth pop top conversion. This plus the rock and roll bed, make a four-birth camper.
The trim is a mix of leather and Alcantara and fully matched throughout. Camper goodies include captain drivers and passenger’s seats on the swivel, top load fridge, gas burner and sink which is coupled to a solar 240v hook-up and diesel night heater, all give ultimate weekend practicality. To the side is a Fiama F45 awning and for fun a starlight roof, much like a Rolls-Royce. An upgraded stereo system with Alpine amplifier and speaker upgrade. We are sure there are more items to mention but naturally being such an expensive conversion, the van is also kitted with a Pandora Pro tracker and an alarm with remote start.
The whole conversion plus van, bearing in mind it has covered a mere 5,000 miles, cost an estimated £85,000. There is no better way to travel and camp out under the stars whist still looking fantastic on road, this van not only looks great stood still but handles well regardless of the conversion with ample power from the T30 powerplant and good road handling with this stunning setup. This is a VAT qualifying vehicle so if VAT registered you can also make quite a saving!
