Code-named “Project 11” during development, the McLaren MP4-12C originated in 2005 as the company’s first series-production road model. A total in-house program, the MP4-12C was an all-new vehicle bristling with the latest in race-derived technology, based upon a full, competition-style, carbon-fiber “tub” structure with advanced extruded-aluminum subframes mounting a competition-type suspension featuring hydraulically linked active dampers. Power and stunning performance were delivered by McLaren’s proprietary new 3.8L twin-turbocharged V-8 engine—developing 592 HP initially, and later 616 HP—mated to a 7-speed, twin-clutch Seamless Shift Gearbox (SSG) with steering-wheel shift paddles.
Speaking of performance, the 12C carries amazing credentials including 0-60 MPH sprints in 3.2 seconds, lowered to 3.0 seconds with more aggressive Pirelli P-Zero Corsa tires fitted. The quarter mile is covered in just 10.9 seconds at 135 MPH en route to a 205 MPH top end. Unsurprisingly, a select few buyers demanded still more style, speed and exclusivity from the brilliant new McLaren, with famed European firm Gemballa responding with the Gemballa GT.
Established in 1981, Gemballa is far more than a tuning or conversion company, having been registered with the German Federal Motor Transport Authority since 1985 as an automobile manufacturer with its own national HSN (Manufacturer Key Number) and WMI (World Manufacturer Identifier) credentials. This electrifying, Azure Blue Metallic 2012 Gemballa GT is one of just two MP4-12C McLaren coupes redesigned by the Gemballa and the first non-Porsche offered publicly by the company. Following its comprehensive updates, the car was debuted on the Gemballa stand at the 82nd Geneva International Motor Show in March 2012.
Subsequent high-profile European appearances include the 2012 Top Marques Monaco show, where it was photographed with model and actress Pamela Anderson, plus further display at the 2012 Paris Motor Show and the Dubai International Motor Show. Comprising a new front bumper and spoiler, new side skirts, a GMBH carbon fiber rear diffuser and a GMBH adjustable rear wing, this Gemballa GT with its GMBH carbon Aero package makes a bold visual statement and delivers enhanced aerodynamic efficiency, especially at the extra-legal speeds it is capable of reaching with its GMBH engine upgrade tuning.
Its engine sits inside a carbon fiber engine compartment with a GMBH logo and breathes through GMBH sport-tuned exhaust. GMBH Azure Blue brake calipers are tucked behind GMBH bespoke, light alloy, forged wheels, while inside the GMBH cross-stitched, two-tone interior carbon fiber sport seats, a GMBH leather and carbon sport steering wheel, GMBH white instrument cluster, GMBH-branded aluminum pedals and carbon fiber interior trim come together for a wonderful sight. With an odometer reading of 1,200 miles paired to its stunning appearance, it helps to make this extremely rare McLaren MP4-12C-based Gemballa GT even more of a standout than the original article.
