The first McLaren-designed and -built production car since the legendary F1, the McLaren MP4-12C was developed with the same methodical approach that has earned nine Formula 1 World Constructors Championships. McLaren pioneered the use of carbon fiber first in Formula 1 and then for road use in the 2003 F1, and the 12C continued that tradition with its MonoCell monocoque chassis, which features aluminum front and rear subframes carrying hydraulically controlled, programmable all independent wishbone suspension, electric rack-and-pinion steering, vented and cross-drilled disc brakes with McLaren 4-piston calipers and Pirelli P-Zero tires on lightweight 20-inch alloy wheels.
The 12C is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.8L all-aluminum V-8 engine with double overhead cams, 4 valves per cylinder and sequential multiport fuel injection, driving 592 HP at 7,000 RPM and 443 lb-ft of torque at 3,000 RPM through a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and realizing a top speed of 205 MPH—a number made possible by thousands of hours of wind tunnel and real world aerodynamic development. Offered with an odometer reading of 16,781 miles, this 2012 McLaren MP4-12C’s understated presentation belies its searing supercar performance with silver paint over a tasteful black leather and Alcantara interior.
Accessed through cleverly designed dihedral opening doors, the driver-focused cockpit features power-adjustable heated bucket seats, analogue instrumentation and a powerful Meridian sound system. An impressive example of its breed, this 2012 McLaren MP4-12C remains as fresh in concept and execution as the day it was born.
