With McLaren’s first supercar, the Le Mans-winning F1, ceasing production in 1998, the brand had yet to design and produce another supercar until September 2009, when the MP4-12C was unveiled to the public. Styled by the famed designer Frank Stephenson, the MP4-12C used cutting-edge Formula 1 technology centered around a one-piece carbon fiber tub, classified as the Carbon MonoCell. Coupled with a purpose-built, rear-mid-mounted 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine, it was good for 0-60 mph in just 2.8 seconds, with a top speed of 204 mph.
Shortly after MP4-12C production launched, McLaren expanded its Special Operations (MSO) program. MSO is a collaboration between McLaren and their clients, which allows for the completion of one-off, fully bespoke projects. Offered here is Project 8, one of the earliest collaborations from MSO, designed to match the color scheme of F1 chassis 072.
Outfitted with over $200,000 in MSO features, the car is finished in bespoke Xtreme white paint over a red and white interior. Red tinted carbon fiber can be found throughout the exterior and interior, accentuating the car’s iconic styling, while matching details such as the red carbon ceramic brake calipers. Other desirable options include the Stealth Pack, sport exhaust and lightweight forged wheels.
Delivered new through McLaren of Newport Beach, this MP4-12C has been kept in meticulous condition under the care of its single Southern California owner, accumulating just 604 miles since delivery. It is accompanied by its factory books and battery tender.
