Based on the all-out Senna before it, the Sabre took the McLaren hypercar concept to new extremes with its twin-turbocharged 4.0L V-8 powerplant factory rated at 824 HP, 165 more than the Senna and 20 more than the Elva roadster. However, the Sabre is primarily a road car, yet still without performance compromises. Consistent with the exclusive McLaren Special Operations (MSO) ethos, the Sabre is incredibly rare with just 15 examples produced in total. Homologation was strictly for the specific requirements of the U.S. market, and when the Sabre was first announced, McLaren advised that all 15 cars were already allocated to the company’s most ardent U.S.-based clients.
In the fall of 2020, the first sightings of the new Sabre came at California’s private Thermal Club track, where buyers enjoyed the rare opportunity to drive a camouflaged Sabre development car. These test sessions allowed prospective buyers to provide direct feedback, ensuring the Sabre would reflect its buyers’ specific needs and desires. Each of the 15 Sabres features optional paint, trim and interior combinations, with each car individually built for its lucky new owner. Offered with just 2,464 miles, this Sabre is Car No. 7 of only 15 produced by MSO.
The most powerful non-hybrid road car McLaren had built to that point, the Sabre was designed and homologated exclusively for sale in the United States. Given the individuality of each Sabre, this is the only one of the 15-car run produced with bespoke GT comfort seats. Breathtaking performance includes a top speed of 218 MPH, delivered by McLaren’s DOHC twin-turbocharged 4.0L/824 HP V-8 engine, breathing out through an Inconel alloy F1-style exhaust system. Rated at 590 lb-ft of torque, the Sabre’s competition-derived powerplant is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Unforgettably finished in MSO Modica Blue and bare carbon fiber, the Sabre’s bodywork includes extreme aerodynamic aids and Paris Blue pinstripe accents. The underlying carbon fiber monocage chassis includes a track-focused set of 4-wheel carbon ceramic disc brakes. Other signature features include the blue-tinted carbon fiber dash, dihedral doors, Gorilla glass windows and a fixed rear wing and active aero rear diffuser. Road contact is provided by a set of Paris Blue, diamond-milled, seven-spoke, center-lock wheels mounting Pirelli P-Zero tires. Two keys are included, and of note for the next owner, the Sabre’s personalized “Triple F Collection” emblems are removable if desired.
