Introduced in the ’80s as a named continuation of the world-famous original 1948 and up Series I-III Land Rovers, the Defender soldered on in a wide range of body configurations until the last one rolled off the Solihull, England, production line in 2015. Land Rover bestowed the Defender name to the long-running series to differentiate it from the then-new and posher Discovery and Range Rover models. This 1985 Defender 110 Pickup underwent a triple six-figure custom build that added supercharged V-8 performance and hand-crafted luxury appointments to the original formula.
The Defender is powered by a 6.2L Chevrolet LS3 V-8 equipped with a Whipple supercharger and a MoTeC engine management system, all backed by a 6-speed automatic transmission. Dual exhaust with quad chrome tips belts out a supercharged sound. A Tesla electronic braking system with a Wilwood master cylinder and trailer braking joins forces with a modified antirock sway bar suspension for all-terrain control. Extra-wide fender flares envelop Goodyear Wrangler MT/R tires for maximum traction.
The custom-crafted Defender wears Pearl White paint topped with black-finish trim and components, including louvered fender step plates, bed rails and an upgraded front grille and headlamp surround with stainless steel, woven-wire backing mesh from UK-based Land Rover specialists KBX. Matching black bumpers, side step bars and a front-mounted Warn winch with steel cable add practical style and on-demand capability. The custom cabin features Recaro houndstooth bucket seats, a Puma dash with the MoTeC instrument panel and a cupholder center armrest with a pushbutton PCS (Powertrain Control Solutions) shifter that brings comfort and performance within reach.
Vintage Air cooling and a heater deliver four-season climate control. The restored and modified Defender combines rugged capability with modern performance and luxury and waits for its next owner to engage full power and adventure with a keyless start.
