A shorter-wheelbase 2+2 coupé was launched in 1965. Although mechanically similar, this elegant newcomer possessed a visual presence that its predecessor lacked, and was equipped with a 1,216 cc engine producing 80 bhp. Lightweight and optimised "HF" versions offered enhanced performance and formed the basis of the factory's highly successful rally programme, which enabled the Fulvia HF1600 to deliver Lancia its first World Manufacturers' Championship title in 1972.

The ultimate expression of the Fulvia Coupé, the HF1600 was introduced in 1969 and was equipped with a 1,584 cc engine producing 115 bhp in road-going form — sufficient power to reach a top speed of 185 km/h — as well as revised suspension and a five-speed gearbox. Production ceased in 1973 after just under 5,000 examples of the HF1600 had been built. The Jolly Club, founded in 1957 by the late Roberto Angiolini, was one of the most successful private teams in motorsport history.

A true Italian institution, it left its mark on the world of rallying between the 1970s and 1980s with drivers such as Walter Röhrl, Carlos Sainz, Didier Auriol, Alessandro Fiorio, Dario Cerrato and Miki Biasion, winning numerous national and international titles thanks to them. Some of the most iconic cars in rally history competed under Jolly Club colours, including the Alfa Romeo Giulietta TI, Giulia GTA, Lancia Fulvia, Stratos, 037 and Delta, as well as the Ferrari 308 GTB. The Jolly Club played a significant role in shaping the success of Italian manufacturers in rallying.

Born in 1970 as a genuine competition Fulvia, this 1600 HF was very quickly entered in rallies by the Jolly Club, notably in events forming part of the Italian Rally Championship. After campaigning Fulvias for two years with the Jolly Club, Giancarlo Biasuzzi acquired 2073, which was then registered VA398702. It is highly possible that the car had already competed for the Jolly Club, but records are incomplete. Biasuzzi then continued to enter 2073 in various rallies such as the 1973 Rally Campagnolo, the 1973 Coppa Liburna, the 333 Minuti and the 1973 Valli Imperiesi, achieving several top 10 overall finishes and class podiums.

In 1974, the Fulvia continued its competition career, still with Biasuzzi, taking part in the Rally dell'Isola d'Elba, the Ruota d'Oro, the Coppa Liburna and the Trofeo Marlboro, maintaining the same consistency with five top 10 finishes that season. During the 1975 season, Biasuzzi continued to drive the Fulvia in Italian rallies, often under the Scuderia Grifone banner, such as at the Linea Mobili, the 4 Regioni and the Rally del Bellunese.

Biasuzzi then parted with the Fulvia in favour of a Lancia Stratos HF, and 2073 was acquired by Alessandro Baraldo, who promptly entered it, still in 1975, in the Coppa Valtellina and the Due Valli. 2073 then appears to have taken a short retirement in the hands of one Oscar Rumi, before reappearing with Maurizio Ambrogetti, another Jolly Club driver. The car was issued with identification papers to compete in historic regularity events in 1988; in the photographs within the technical file, it still wears the typical colours of the Italian team. However, it was with a red bonnet that Ambrogetti drove it in the 1988 Coppa delle Alpi, as shown in period photographs.

In 1990, it was registered with the Registro Storico Lancia under number 574. Later, the Fulvia was acquired by Angelo Miniggio before returning to Maurizio Ambrogetti in 2012. It was in 2019 that its current owner acquired it; the car had already been restored, with an engine prepared by Facetti Bresso Milano and bodywork by Carrozzeria Ellepi in Trezzano. In 2020, following nearly €25,000 of work, 2073 took part in the Monte-Carlo Historique under number 96, the same number used by Biasuzzi on his Jolly Club Fulvia at the 1975 Monte Carlo Rally.

Upon its return from the Monte-Carlo Historique, the car underwent a major service costing approximately €9,000 and has since been regularly maintained, albeit used more sparingly. A total of over €50,000 worth of work has been carried out on this Fulvia since 2019. Today, this historic Fulvia is ready to return to action at the Tour Auto, the Monte Carlo or the Tour de Corse. It is still presented with its period-specific Fulvia "Rallye" equipment, including the uniquely shaped roll cage designed to clear the equally specific dashboard, as well as the high-capacity fuel tank with its filler cap located on the rear wing.

Above all, it still retains the extremely rare VAR 1016 engine, as found in factory cars. Sold with its former Italian registration document, a file of invoices, various period Italian administrative documents, as well as its ACI and Registro Storico Lancia papers, 2073 is also accompanied by a set of eight additional wheels.
