Hailing from the year that the nation’s automakers were adjusting to changing tastes in automobiles, this 1962 Chrysler 300H Convertible is both unique and scarce. Being offered here is one of a mere 123 convertibles built on the noteworthy 300 letter-series design that year, and this car may be the best example of that exclusive group still in existence. This is confirmed with numerous nationally recognized event honors from AACA, Meadowbrook Concours, Boca Raton Concourse d'Elegance (a first-place Platinum), WP Chrysler Nationals (Best Of Show Chrysler Cup) and Chrysler 300 Club International (highest-point judged and People’s Choice First in Class).
Painted in a distinguished black with matched black top, this vehicle displays the redefining look the company was striving towards at the time, with lower-slung body lines, an inset grille, angular headlamps and diminished rear styling cues. Always created with a sense of elegance and exclusivity, the 300 letter-series cars were created with the idea of executive-level appeal. Of course, the Chrysler 300 designation had always meant power from its 1955 inception, and here that means the 413/380 HP RB-wedge engine, still equipped with dual-inline 4-barrel carburetion for ample acceleration at any RPM level.
This is backed by the TorqueFlite transmission with its pushbutton dash selector and a Sure Grip rear axle, and it features power brakes and power steering as well. This convertible continued the idea of personal luxury once inside, with beautiful tan upholstery and the full-length console for individual seating comfort. Lavish accessories here include the air conditioning, power windows, power seats, Solex tinted glass, the Golden Touchtune radio, power antenna, remote mirror and the scarce-for-1962 front seat belts.
Of course, there are exclusive 300-series designations noted on the body trim, interior appointments and exclusive full-size wheel covers, with narrow whitewalls in keeping with its more refined status.
