The 1960s had dawned with hope, a new presidency and no small amount of challenge for the Chrysler Corporation. The 300G, seventh in the letter series sport-luxury models offered by Chrysler, was still standing tall. This example is one of 337 built during that 1961 model season. Having already benefited from a stunning nut-and-bolt refreshing to its fantastic condition, the 300G here is significant to its era. The passing of DeSoto and management upheaval at the very top of the company that year would not impact this flag-bearer of the Chrysler product line. Technology remained evident, for under the hood here is its special matching-numbers 413 CI V-8 rated at 375 HP.
This car is equipped with the ram-induction intake with dual 4-barrel carburetors, the tube length scientifically determined to create forced induction at a passing RPM of approximately 3,000. Furthermore, this car has factory air conditioning, power-assist brakes and maintenance upgrades under the hood. The body is painted white and features angular headlamps, special 300G callouts, crisply defined fender lines and dual exterior mirrors. A contrasting black soft top adds beauty.
Inside, this car features its jet-inspired dashboard instrument panel with 150 MPH speedometer, the original Golden Touch radio with rear-mount power antenna, power swivel front bucket seats, a full length front-to-rear center console with integrated factory tachometer, dash-mounted pushbutton-operated TorqueFlite transmission controls and tinted glass. Chrome on this model was defined with sharp lines surrounding the tail lamps, a single half-length chrome side-spear with integral 300G medallion, the Chrysler-associated cross-hair grille and block-design identification lettering. This 300G rides on steel wheels with full-size wheel covers and wide whitewall radial tires.
With 54,898 believed-original miles, this car presents itself in a near-perfect balance of elegance and power. Coupled to the rare ram-induction layout, it remains a classic example of this time period to this day.
