The Dunhill DB7 had first emerged in 1996 as a concept car showcasing some of the latest items in the company's accessories catalogue, its positive reception being judged good enough to justify producing a limited series. Mechanically the Dunhill cars were identical with the production DB7, the differences being confined to finish, trim, and accessories. Closed coup and open Volante models were offered, all finished in the same metallic silver paintwork exclusive to the Dunhill model, the colour being chosen to match the Dunhill Millennium watch mounted on the dashboard.
Finished in Gunmetal Grey metallic, the 18" wheels too are unique to the Dunhill model, while the regular hubcaps were replaced by ones referencing the shape of the watch. Elsewhere there were other stylistic touches inspired by Dunhill's AD 2000 watch collection, and the Dunhill name was applied to the instrument cluster, seat backs, over-mats and numbered sill plates.
Charcoal Connolly hide piped in silver-grey was used for the interior trim, while other silver-coloured accents extended to the brushed steel dashboard panels, centre console, door trims and gear lever knob, the lattter also featured Dunhill's 'tri-line' motif. And if the non-smoking customer had no use for the built-in humidor (a constant-humidity cigar box), a personal grooming kit could be ordered instead. Other specification highlights include automatic transmission, mesh grilles, air conditioning, alloy control pedals, heated front and rear screens, heated electric seats, adjustable steering column, colour-coded electric mirrors and light grey Alcantara headlining.
Production of the Alfred Dunhill Edition DB7 Coups and Volantes was intended to run to 150 examples, but it appears that only around half that number were sold during 1998 and 1999. Aston Martin retained '001' for their own collection, making this car - '002' - the first one sold. '002' had covered only some 15,000 miles at time of cataloguing and is presented in very good condition and all-round fine order, retaining all of its Dunhill special features. Originally a California car, it is accompanied by its leather-bound Aston Martin Alfred Dunhill DB7 Owner's Guide and is currently registered in Germany and thus free to circulate within the EU.
German registration papers and an expertise (from 2016) are on file, and the car also comes with a Technical Data Sheet and State of California Certificate of Title in Jennifer Lopez's name (issued in 2012). A wonderful opportunity to own one of these rare and exclusive Alfred Dunhill DB7s possessing pop-star royalty connections.
