Aston Martin has long held a mystique like few others. When Aston fell under the Ford umbrella in the 1990s, it was both a blessing and a curse. A curse in that many felt Ford would water down the brand, thus taking away its mystique. A blessing because Ford had deep pockets and extensive capabilities to develop and market new models that could save the company. One of the first efforts under Ford was the DB7, a smaller ‘world-market’ car with a race-bred six-cylinder engine. Less expensive than its V-8 stablemate, it was a hit and sold very well. Well enough, in fact, to broaden the model line with a V-12 in 1999.
Introduced at the Geneva Motor Show, the DB7 V-12 Vantage actually created quite a stir. The 5.9L engine produced 420 HP and could be had with either a ZF 5-speed automatic or a Tremec T-56 6-speed manual transmission, and in either form performance was outstanding. So successful were the sales of the V-12 Vantage, that Aston Martin stopped production of the six-cylinder model by late 1999. This DB7 V-12 Vantage Volante features the 5-speed automatic, and has traveled only 23,000 miles from new. Offered with a fresh tune up including new plugs, wires, and fluids, it wears a rare Metallic Blue color and has a Tan interior with Blue appointments and a power-operated Blue soft top.
