Immediately after partnering with McLaren in 1995 to contest for the Formula 1 World Championship, Mercedes-Benz resurrected the historic SLR designation to do what it had not done in 40 years: produce a road-going supercar car using the latest in Grand Prix racing technology. Both are wonders of 21st century technology, beginning with the core structure: a body shell and chassis made entirely from high-strength carbon fiber composites.
