720S я брала в аренду всего на два дня, но этого хватило, чтобы влюбиться и испугаться одновременно. Машина невероятно быстрая, и даже лёгкое нажатие на газ превращает дорогу в аттракцион. Built from a competition-type central tub structure based on that of the P1 hypercar, the 720S nonetheless marked a nearly complete departure from its predecessor on several key levels in terms of its design and components. The second car in McLaren’s so-called Super Series and the designated successor to the 650S, the 720S is as wild as anything McLaren has ever built for the road, with sensuously contoured body work capped by a tapered canopy and imaginative detailing inspired by the world’s greatest hunting machine, the Great White Shark. One of the key details of the exterior design is the absence of body-side radiator intakes; the cooling function is performed instead by channels running from the nose through the unique double-skinned dihedral doors to the rear side-mounted radiators. A unique optional extra is the pair of Gorilla Glass panels on the tops of the wide-opening doors. The 720S’ twin-turbocharged 4.0L DOHC 32-valve V-8 engine’s 720 PS power rating (the number behind the model designation) translates to 710 SAE horsepower at 7,000 RPM and a hefty 568 lb-ft of torque at 5,500 RPM.
