    Lancia Flaminia GT Convertible, 1960

Chassis No.: 824041157 Auction: Monterey 2021 Auction date: August 14, 2021 Lot No.: S58 $71,500 | Sold • Exterior: Grigio • Interior: Grigio • Body: Convertible • Aluminum Cabriolet coachwork by Carrozzeria Touring • 1 of only 421 produced • 2.5L V-6 engine • Solex twin-choke carburetor • Manual transmission • Factory 4-wheel disc brakes • Finished in Grigio with matching interior • Painted Silver dash • Wood-rimmed steering wheel • Jaeger instruments • Named after the Via Flaminia, the road leading from Rome to Rimini Built with elegant aluminum coachwork by Carrozzeria Touring, this 1960 Lancia Flaminia GT convertible is one of only 421 produced. Named after the Via Flaminia, the road leading from Rome to Rimini, the Flaminia continued the Lancia tradition of naming new models after Italian roads. It was the first of a new-generation series designed under the guidance of Professor Antonio Fessia, designer of the Fiat 600, who had taken over as Lancia’s new technical director in 1957. In its original public showing at the Turin Auto Show in 1955, the first Flaminia showed off a pillarless coupe body with rear suicide doors by Pininfarina on a modified Aurelia chassis. When Flaminia production began in 1957, the adapted Aurelia chassis remained, along with a modified version of the world’s first production V-6 engine, which was introduced in the Aurelia, a rear-mounted 4-speed manual transaxle mounted by semi-elliptical springs and a new Fessia-designed independent coil-spring front suspension replacing the traditional Lancia sliding pillar front suspension. The Flaminia’s 4-wheel disc brakes and radial tires were also significant developments. While the Pininfarina-designed versions bore single headlights and retained a similarity to the Florida show cars, the GT coupes and convertibles wore this example’s stylish aluminum bodywork featuring newly fashionable quad headlights in distinctive touring-designed bezels. Powered by the Lancia 2.5L V-6 using a single Solex twin-choke carburetor, this 1960 GT Flaminia convertible was recently refinished in attractive Grigio metallic paint and boasts a fresh matching gray interior with taut leather upholstery on the seats and door panels, immaculate gray carpeting and a color-matching metal dash with a Jaeger 5,000 RPM tachometer with integrated clock and 220 KPH speedometer with integrated fuel, water temperature, oil pressure and oil temperature gauges. The wood-rimmed three-spoke aluminum steering wheel completes the car’s sporty Italian ambience. https://www.mecum.com/lots/465305/1960-lancia-flaminia-gt-convertible/

    Lancia Flaminia Coupe, 1965

Chassis No.: 826030001693 Auction: Monterey 2019 Auction date: August 17, 2019 Lot No.: S39 $40,700 | Sold • Exterior: Silver • Interior: Red • Body: Coupe • 1 of 1,085 Flaminia 2.8L coupes produced • Lancia’s flagship luxury model • Coachbuilt by Pininfarina • 2.8L V-6 engine • 4-speed manual transmission • Silver metallic exterior • Red leather interior • 220 KPH speedometer • Nardi Torino steering wheel The Flaminia was Lancia’s flagship luxury model produced from 1957-1970, the replacement for the outgoing Aurelia. Offered in three basic presentations—sedan, coupe and cabriolet—the Flaminia was designed and coachbuilt by the most prestigious Carrozzeria in Italy, including Zagato and Touring, with the coupe specifically coming out of the famed Pininfarina firm. The Lancia Flaminia was strikingly similar to the Lancia Florida II prototype, not much of a surprise as it was a personal favorite of Pininfarina founder Battista Farina, who regularly used the prototype until his death in April 1966. Shorter than the Florida II and featuring a B-pillar, the two-door Flaminia adopted numerous other elements over its inspiration, such as framed door glass, door vent windows, a steeper windshield rake and a bigger air scoop, at the request of Lancia. Although it was produced for 13 continuous years, there were only 5,236 Flaminia coupes ever made, with only 1,085 of those examples equipped with the more desirable 2.8L engine fitted in this car. Mounted longitudinally and powering the rear wheels through a 4-speed rear-mounted transaxle, the Flaminia’s engine was an evolution of the world’s first production V-6, introduced in the Lancia Aurelia produced from 1950-58. The 2.8L V-6 introduced in 1962 with a triple-barrel carburetor was an improvement over the prior 2.5L single-carburetor engine of 1957-62, offering 136 HP when paired with the coupe body form. This particular 1965 Lancia Flaminia Coupe was designed and coachbuilt by the world-renowned Pininfarina, and it’s instantly recognizable by its iconic C-pillar that seamlessly flows into and forms the upper fender fins of the rear quarter panels. Its drivetrain consists of a front-mounted longitudinally positioned 2.8L V-6 engine, a 4-speed manual gearbox and a rear-wheel drive differential. Finished in silver metallic with a contrasting red leather interior featuring a 220 KPH speedometer and Nardi Torino steering wheel, this is a true Italian classic. https://www.mecum.com/lots/381012/1965-lancia-flaminia-coupe/

    Lancia Flaminia 2.8 3C, 1967

Chassis No.: 8261381157 Auction: Monterey 2017 Auction date: August 19, 2017 Lot No.: S45 $264,000 | Sold • Exterior: Blue • Interior: Tan • Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera aluminum body • 2.8L V-6 engine • Triple carburetors • Touring body • 4-speed manual transmission • Blue exterior • Tan interior • Nardi steering wheel • Road lamps • Dual mirrors • Borrani wire wheels • Pirelli tires The name offers drama and historical significance, something which bolstered Geils’ interest in the Lancia Flaminia. Sporting an aluminum body sculpted by Carrozzeria Touring, it is known as the Superleggera, or super light, a special kind of car for the discerning enthusiast. Lancia contributed an astonishing amount of innovation to the automotive world, including the first V-4 engine and the first 5-speed transmission installed in a production car; the list of innovations goes on and on. Founded in 1906 by Fiat racing drivers Vincenzo Lancia and his friend, Claudio Fogolin, their first car was the Tipo 51, developed and road tested in 1907. It offered 28 HP from a small 4-cylinder engine and an exceptionally high level of creature comforts and quality for the price range. Later, the Tipo 51 name would be changed to Alfa. It’s historical bits and engineering forerunners like these that attracted J. Geils to Lancia. Arguably one of the most beautiful, successful and versatile Lancias, the Flaminia replaced the next most popular Lancia, the Aurelia. It was named, like other Lancias, after a Roman road, in this case, Via Flaminia, one of the oldest and most important roads in Roman history. Powered by a 2.8L V-6 engine with three 2-barrel carburetors, the power is sent to the rear end via a 4-speed manual transmission. Blue on tan, the brightwork absolutely sparkles and the entire combination is simply stunning. Passengers admiring the interior will adore the Nardi steering wheel and rally watches. Geils’ attraction to the Flaminia as the Lancia to own is testament to his study of Italian cars, as so many prefer the Deltas and the other rally-inspired cars from Lancia. However, Flaminia is one of those cars that defined Lancia as a maker of athletic road cars for enthusiasts, a car that built on the successes and accomplishments of Aurelia and improved the overall brand, which in turn made legendary cars like the Delta and Stratos possible. https://www.mecum.com/lots/300178/1967-lancia-flaminia-2-8-3c/
