    BENTLEY S-1 HOOPER LIMOUSINE, 1956

$60,500 USD | Sold No British coachbuilder has a more illustrious or longer history than Hooper. Begun in 1807, it received its first Royal Warrant from the future King William IV. Its royal patronage was succeeded by his niece, Queen Victoria, by her son, King Edward VII, and continues to the present queen. After World War II, Hooper embarked on its most adventurous phase with a series of Osmond Rivers-designed bodies. Their flamboyantly curved front fenders and beltline swept down to the rear, where they merged into the rear fenders. Known as the 'Empire Line,' where earlier Hooper coachwork had been restrained, the 'Empire Line' was daring. Hooper proudly featured a pair of 'Empire Line' bodied cars at the 1956 London Motor Show, a Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud and Bentley S1, a significant event that is mirrored in this pair of Hooper-bodied cars, a 1955 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud and 1956 Bentley S1, both proudly bearing Hooper's distinctive 'Empress' 4-door saloon coachwork, Style 8435. Both are two-toned, the Cloud in black over silver with tan leather; the S in maroon over silver with gray leather. Together they are a statement of elegance, style, purpose and quality, yet each is intrinsically individual. This is an opportunity to acquire a pair of automobiles of the highest quality that combine the work of Britain's most prestigious coachbuilder with its pre-eminent marques that re-create Hooper's 1956 London Motor show display. Right-hand drive. SOLD AS A PAIR WITH LOT 1061 https://www.barrett-jackson.com/scottsdale-2015/docket/vehicle/1956-bentley-s-1-hooper-limousine-181572

    BENTLEY S-1 4-DOOR SALOON, 1955

$220,000 USD | Sold Originally owned by Hollywood producer Jack Warner (Warner Bros.), this is one of seven built by Freestone & Webb with design #3.191. It has a known ownership history from 1955 until the present day. A three-owner original California car, it has undergone a Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance-quality restoration. This extraordinary car was ordered new by Hollywood producer Jack Warner. Jack Warner was the president and driving force behind the Warner Bros. Studios in Hollywood, CA. Mr. Warner enjoyed the car from 1955 until his death in 1978. During that time, he drove this car 43,000 miles. It has the distinction of being a feature car in the 1964 Warner Bros. movie 'Dead Ringer.' The car became available in 1990 after the passing of Jack Warner's wife, Ann Page Alvarado Warner. Vantage Motorworks purchased the car from the Warner estate sale in 1990 and shortly after performed a complete restoration. The Blackhawk Collection purchased this beautiful example in 2002 and was immediately put on display at the Blackhawk Museum. In 2008, this three-owner original California car was freshened up by world-renowned restorer Fennel Restorations in Saugus, CA. This car has the luxury of getting many custom features that Mr. Warner ordered exclusively, which include front and rear air conditioning, power steering, power antenna, unique rear defroster and unique rear passenger trays with a vanity mirror. This example, one of the most sought-after of all postwar Bentleys, has the distinction of being the first left-hand-drive S1 built, plus it is the only left-hand-drive example by Freestone & Webb with design 3191FA.
