La Golf Cabriolet a connu une longue carrière. En effet, tandis que la Golf classique sera remplacée par la Golf 2, le Cabriolet conservera sa carrosserie originelle jusqu'en 1994 pour les derniers exemplaires, pour une production totale de plus de 380.000 voitures. Tout au long de ses 15 ans, plusieurs séries spéciales verront le jour, dont la série limitée rendant hommage au styliste Etienne Aigner.

Proposée pendant une période limitée, elle ne fut pas produite à plus de 3000 exemplaires entre l'Europe et les USA, ce qui en fait l'une des séries les plus rares de la Golf Cabriolet. Elle est également très bien équipée avec le moteur 2H 1.8 litres de 95 chevaux, une boîte automatique ou manuelle à cinq rapports, des jantes et peintures spécifiques, un intérieur plus cossu dans le ton de la carrosserie avec inserts en cuir, capote en alpage... La Golf Cabriolet gagne un côté plus exclusif.

Livrée neuve en Allemagne le 23 Juillet 1990, notre Golf cabriolet Etienne Aigner a rejoint la France en 2003. Grâce à de nombreuses recherches, tous les contrôles techniques ont pu être retrouvés, ce qui permet d'en certifier son kilométrage au moins depuis son arrivée, elle affichait alors un peu plus de 166 000 kilomètres.

Le compteur en affiche aujourd'hui 216 000. La voiture ayant conservé son étiquette de coffre, il nous est possible d'affirmer qu'il s'agit bien d'une authentique série Etienne Aigner et que sa teinte Bordeaux Red Pearl est bien d'origine, tout comme son intérieur. Seuls 1151 exem
