Inspired by the center-seated McLaren F1, the Centro 911 center-drive concept offers a unique Porsche experience. Porsche Club of America National President Manny Alban introduced the original Centro 911 center-drive prototype, a 911 Cabriolet, to the world in a YouTube video published in 2012 that became the most-watched in PCA history. After producing that 911 Cabrio prototype of the center-drive concept for a customer, Shawn Bayliff’s Trinity Motorsports Group of Lima, Ohio, developed this coupe version to meet the demands of track use.
The Centro 911 is created by re-engineering the 997-platform’s floor to reposition the gauge cluster and steering wheel, shifter, pedals, center stack, center console and parking brake to place the driver front and center in the cockpit, in a carefully executed process that involves over 300 man hours of labor. The conversion includes a mechanism allowing the front seat to slide left to the driver’s door for ingress and egress. The interior may be different, but the looks and performance of this 911S remain purely Porsche.
Driven 30,450 actual miles, the car is finished in White with a Black interior fitted with a Cobra racing seat, safety harnesses and specially fabricated carbon fiber inserts. Built at an approximate cost of $75,000, not including the donor car, it is loaded with Porsche options and powered by the highly capable water-cooled 3.8L flat-6 engine, which feeds 355 HP through a 6-speed manual gearbox. This one-of-a-kind center-drive 911S coupe delivers a driving experience like no other.
