The GT3 is named after the FIA Group GT3 class in which it was designed to compete in international motorsports. The GT3 has won a multitude of championship and endurance races, including the GT class of the American Le Mans Series seven times, first overall in the 24 Hours of Daytona, and first overall at the 24 Hours Nürburgring six times.

Since the Porsche GT3 is all about going and feeling fast, it came as no surprise that the 2011 911 GT3 used a highly refined version of the horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine that was increased from 3.6- to 3.8-liters by a .10 cylinder bore growth as part of the changes implemented with this second generation 997 series GT3. The engine, based on the famous GT1, is unique with its application of Porsche’s VarioCam Plus variable valve-lift and timing technology operating on both intake and exhaust camshafts, rather than solely the intake.

The 911 GT3 also boasts a variable intake manifold and a special, low restriction, large-capacity exhaust system that ensures free engine breathing, yet still keeps sound levels within public-road legal limits. All together, these modifications boosted the already impressive 415-hp to 435 at 7,600-rpm and torque from 300-lb/ft to 317 at 6,250-rpm. Despite the displacement increase, the high-revving engines redline climbs from 8,400-rpm to 8,500.

Unlike the Carrera and Boxster engines, the GT3 has a proper dry sump lubrication system with remote oil tank and seven oil pumps. It also utilizes titanium rods and is constructed with cylinder blocks that are separate from the crankcase halves. As befits its ultra-high performance capabilities and persona, the 911 GT3 comes only with a special six-speed manual gearbox with ratios designed to optimize the engine's extended rev range. A mechanical limited-slip differential completes the drivetrain. Employing components developed for the awesome Carrera GT, the differential provides asymmetric limited-slip functions.

The astounding results are the 911 GT3's ability to run from 0- to 60-mph in just 4.0 seconds. The car continues to 100-mph in only 8.2 seconds. The 2011 911 GT3 attained a track-tested top speed of 194-mph.

The exhaust system’s unique, dual centrally mounted outlets beneath the rear bumper are an instant giveaway to the 911 GT3’s identity. The GT3 provides a great impression with its large rear spoiler, front chin spoiler, black alloy wheels, red brake calipers and massive drilled and ventilated brake discs. The interiors comfortable environment features sport-type bucket seats with red seatbelts and is fitted with power windows and an AM/FM/CD sound unit.

This is a meticulously cared for car that has a clean DME scan, no track time and has “led a rather pampered life.” With the odometer displaying 2,000 miles from new, this Porsche is ready to be freshly experienced - for those who may be veterans of the cockpit of these cars; you know the bottom line is that the Porsche GT3 has a wealth of usable power for loads of driving fun on the track or simply getting there.
