Conceived to comply with homologation rules for competition, the 911 GT3 RS debuted in 2003 as the type-996 generation of the 911 neared the end of its production run. Essentially a track car with a road registration, it was an evolution of the 911 GT3, itself based on the 911 GT3 Cup competition car. The subsequent type-997 version of the GT3 RS launched in 2006, with increased output from the motorsports-derived 3.6-litre “Mezger” flat-six engine and redesigned bodywork for improved aerodynamics.

In 2009, the succeeding type-997.2 GT3 debuted with further improvements, most notable of which was an increase in engine displacement to 3.8 litres, which helped boost output to 435 horsepower. As expected, an updated RS version followed a year later offering a heady 450 horsepower on tap. Some sources put total production for the type-997.2 GT3 RS coupés with the 3.8-litre engine at 1,619 units. A mere 100 of these are said to have been produced for 2011, including the example offered here, making it among the rarest of 911 models produced in any given model year.

This German-delivery Porsche 911 GT3 RS 3.8 completed production on 29 June 2010. In 2011, it was exported from Germany to Switzerland by the previous owner and was subsequently acquired by the consignor in January 2015. The car has remained well cared for as part of The Carrera Collection ever since.

This 911 GT3 RS 3.8 is finished today as it left the factory, wearing Grey Black paint with Guards Red graphics and 19-inch centre-locking wheels. The Black Leatherette interior features the full Clubsport treatment, which includes deeply bolstered cloth bucket seats, multi-point harnesses, and a roll cage in place of the rear seats. The car was further equipped with numerous desirable options from the factory. These include a 90-litre fuel tank, the Sports Chrono Package Plus, the Sound Package Plus, universal audio interface, PCM including extended navigation, Bluetooth handsfree phone interface, and floor mats matching the interior color.

Additional equipment included dynamic engine mounts, a limited-slip rear differential, Porsche Active Suspension Management, fully automatic climate control, Alcantara roof lining, Bi-Xenon headlights, and instrument dials in black. At the time of cataloguing, the Porsche's odometer read just 10,409 kilometres.

This 2011 911 GT3 RS 3.8 is at the very apex of Porsche’s track-focused production models, offering a rare opportunity for marque aficionados and enthusiasts seeking a road car suited to serious circuit driving.
