The road-going variant of Porsche’s contemporary GT3 Cup car, the 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 coupe—based on the revised Type 997.2 platform—proved once again that when Porsche decides to turn up the volume on its venerated rear-engined Ubercar the results are heard around the world. As it does to this day, the GT3 combined all the attributes of a hardcore, track-focused special with new levels of refinement and daily-driver livability, a mixture that has long been one of Porsche’s greatest strengths.
The 2010 GT3 received an upgrade in the engine compartment, where the Mezger-designed water-cooled, dry-sump flat-6 was bored out from 3.6L to 3.8L and upgraded with lightened internals, a Variocam intake and exhaust valve management, increasing output from 415 HP to 435 and raising the redline to a screaming 8,400 RPM. Available only with a 6-speed manual and limited-slip differential, the GT3 also incorporated Porsche Stability Management with Normal and Sport modes, extensive aerodynamic improvements including the largest rear wing ever on a roadgoing production 911, larger, lighter, better ventilated disc brakes, and lighter 19-inch center lock wheels.
Originally delivered with an MSRP of $144,675, this sterling 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 wears its factory Carrara White paint in combination with a business-like black leather interior. Like any serious performer, it sports plenty of Alcantara in all the right places—on the steering wheel, shifter, Sport bucket seats and headliner—while the Guards Red seatbelts add a splash of color.
