This 1959 Plymouth Sport Fury "Christine" re-creation is a tribute to the title character from the 1983 horror film "Christine," based on the book by Stephen King. It is powered by a 318ci V8 engine and a push-button 3-speed automatic transmission. A reported 24 cars were purchased for the film, which were finished in the Royal Red color used on the 1983 Camaro. This 1959 Fury was restored, with the color and interior changed to resemble the infamous movie villain. It is equipped with power-assisted steering and brakes, and upgrades were made to the wiring, and a modern alternator and additional gauges were fitted.
The Sport Fury debuted as Plymouth’s top-level model for the 1959 model year and featured a wraparound windshield, dual fender-mounted mirrors, anodized aluminum bodyside trim, raised tailfins, twin antennas and a Sport Deck faux spare wheel cover. A total of 17,867 hardtops were produced for the model year. Swiveling front bucket seats were standard features in the Sport Fury, and additional features on this example include textured aluminum dash inserts, an analog clock, a push-button AM radio and front lap belts.
