Hailed by its maker as "a super sports car for day-to-day driving", the Gallardo was based on a styling proposal by Giorgetto Giugiaro's Italdesign with final refinements by Lamborghini's in-house team of designers, headed by Luc Donckerwolke. According to Lamborghini: "The vehicle's wheelbase and reduced overhangs give it a more dynamic look ... (while) the dimensions of the Gallardo and its performance goals lend it a compact sense of athleticism. All this has been modeled in a single volume, respecting typical and unique proportions, the distinctive sign of a stylistic tradition. " There was no denying that the Gallardo was a radical design in the best Lamborghini tradition and worthy to stand alongside legendary models from the company's past such as the Miura and Countach.
Launched at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, the successor Gallardo LP560-4 (560PS, 4-wheel drive) was a significant advance, powered by a new, uneven firing and more economical 5.2-liter V10 engine featuring direct fuel injection and producing 552bhp. At the same time the E-gear was revised to offer a Corsa mode that made shifts 40% quicker than before and also reduced the amount of traction control intervention. A 'Thrust Mode' launch control system was added also. Some 20kg lighter than its predecessor, the LP560-4 could accelerate from 0-100km / h (62mph) in 3.7 seconds and had a top speed of 325km / h (202mph).
In March 2010, Lamborghini announced the Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera, a lightweight and more powerful version of the LP560-4. Extensive use of carbon fiber both inside and out reduced weight to 2,954lb making the LP570-4 the lightest road-going Lamborghini in the range. Power went up to 562bhp and the 0-100km / h time was cut to 3.2 seconds, while top speed increased slightly to 204mph.
THE MOTORCAR OFFERED
This top of the line LP570-4 Superleggera was ordered new by the consignor who has fastidiously cared for the car since taking delivery. The exterior is adorned in the gorgeous shade of Blu Caelum (a $7,260 special option) over a nero alcantara interior. The car is highly optioned with some of the larger ticket items including a rearview camera, navigation system, Superleggera carbon package, engine bay in carbon fiber, a big rear wing, and carbon ceramic brakes with gray calipers, the latter of which was a $16,450 option.
