Aggressively finished in Matte Black, this outrageous 2023 Ford GT Mk IV is one of 67 examples of the track-only Mk IV hand-built by Ford Performance and Multimatic Motorsports to commemorate Ford’s victory at the 1967 24 Hours of Le Mans. The final variant of the latest-generation Ford GT, the Ford GT Mk IV was inspired by the 12 Mk IV “J-Car” prototypes that were built in 1966 and 1967, including chassis J-5, which was driven to victory by Americans Dan Gurney and A.J. Foyt at the 1967 24 Hours of Le Mans. During that epic drive, J-5 took the lead in the first 90 minutes, with Gurney and Foyt stretching that margin to 4 laps by the end of the race.
Bearing chassis number 025, this stunning Ford GT Mk IV most noticeably features model-specific carbon fiber “long tail” bodywork. Purposeful Mk IV aerodynamic enhancements include a massive front splitter and front-mounted canards. To the rear, a giant, fixed wing enhances air penetration and downforce at speed. Upon closer inspection, the longer wheelbase of the Mk IV provides improved high-speed stability and on-track handling compared to the standard Ford GT.
The bulkier headlights of the roadgoing GT were replaced with simpler equivalents, and the two channels normally featured on the GTs are replaced by four overlapping cooling vents, lending a more aggressive, track-focused look to the vehicle. The twin-turbocharged 3.8L/800 HP EcoBoost V-6 engine was enlarged for the Mark IV and outranks the 660 HP output of the street version. A competition-type, 7-speed dual-clutch sequential transaxle delivers the power and performance. Other Mk IV specifics include a Multimatic Adaptive Spool Valve (ASV) race suspension, Alcon disc brakes, Sparco racing seats and safety harnesses, and center-lock wheels mounting Michelin Pilot Sport GT tires.
When the Ford GT Mk IV was first offered for sale, prospective buyers were required to apply directly to Ford. Only approved clients were allowed to purchase the car. Pricing started at $1.7 million, with Ford making its buyer selections in the first quarter of 2023, with the first deliveries scheduled for the third quarter of 2023. Unlike for those original buyers, a simpler road to ownership is available in Monterey 2026 with chassis number 025.
