Designed and built to help celebrate Ford Motor Company’s landmark 2003 centennial, the Ford GT also commemorated Ford’s historic first through third podium sweep in the Ford versus Ferrari wars at the 1966 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Rooted in the GT90 and GT40 concept cars shown at Detroit in 1995 and 2002 respectively, the new Ford GT echoed the basic layout and iconic design cues of the original GT40 yet featured state-of-the-art engineering, materials and construction techniques to deliver even greater performance than its legendary forebear. The new GT was designed by Camilo Pardo under J.
Mays at Ford’s Living Legends studio, engineering and assembly were performed by Ford’s Special Vehicle Team (SVT), and direct development work was completed by none other than Carroll Shelby and his team. The GT’s proof was in its performance, with a broad envelope including a factory-stated top end of 205 MPH. According to published sources, 4,033 GTs were built in total for the 2005 and 2006 model years combined; this particular GT is one of the 2,011 produced for the 2006 model year.
According to the Ford GT VIN list in “Ford GT: The Complete Owners Experience” published by the SVT Owners Association, this 2006 Ford GT was completed on December 22, 2005, making it the last GT produced during calendar year 2005. It is one of 541 finished in Tungsten Gray Metallic for 2006 and features include $5,350 painted racing stripes, ebony black leather upholstery, the $4,000 audiophile-quality McIntosh stereo system with CD player (including subwoofer and A-pillar speakers) and $750 gray-painted calipers for the Brembo ventilated disc brakes. Factory-issued books are included with the sale of this 2006 Ford GT, which comes to auction with only 1,230 miles.
Sparingly used and well-equipped, this prime-quality 2006 Ford GT is simply a great example of a modern-day Ford legend.
