Having covered only 18,250 miles from new, this red on tan 575 Maranello sports a 5.7L/515 HP V-12 engine mated to a manual transmission, which features the much-desired 6-speed gated shifter. The car marked a return of a front-engined V-12, but unlike some of the older Ferrari V-12s that were located in front driver the 550 would feel light on its feet. “We wanted a car that is easier to drive and requires no special skills,” said Amedeo Felisa, director of engineering for the 550.
The car was such a smash hit that in 2002 Ferrari invested a sizable amount in updating and modernizing the car. With only minor styling updates, the 575 Maranello improvements included a drive-by-wire throttle replacing the conventional unit, steel piston rods replaced titanium alloy and Sachs shocks replaced Bilstein. The engine was enlarged from 5.5 to 5.7 liters to provide more power and smoother delivery, with 0-60 MPH times in the low 4-second range. The 575 came with both F1 automatic and the traditional manual transmission choices.
In spite of the purist feel and the satisfying click of the gates, very few 575 Maranellos were equipped with a standard 6-speed manual in the classic gated shifter, therefore this is one of those rare and increasingly sought-after cars. The rich leather interior features power seats styled in the Daytona motif, resonating front engine V-12 heritage with a modern touch, while headrests feature the Ferrari Prancing Horse and the fenders host the signature Scuderia Shields.
