Ferrari has once again advanced the mid-engined V-6 Berlinetta concept in this 2024 296 GTB, the first Ferrari road car with a rear-wheel drive plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain that integrates a twin-turbocharged 3.0L V-6 engine with a rear electric motor and 7.45 kWh lithium-ion battery, producing a combined 818 HP with instant throttle response. Driving through an 8-speed F1 dual-clutch automated transmission, the hybrid powertrain works seamlessly with Ferrari’s electronic side slip angle control (ESSC) and transition manager actuator system to produce razor-sharp handling in every corner.
An aerodynamic tea-tray underbody (Ferrari’s first), carbon fiber rear diffuser, Michelin Pilot S tires on forged wheels with titanium bolts, and 4-wheel disc brakes with black calipers tighten the connection between driver and road. The 296 GTB’s sensual yet aggressive exterior evokes traditional Ferrari design while employing what Maranello calls “radical and innovative aerodynamic choices” in such features as improved engine compartment thermal management and an active rear spoiler designed to increase downforce rather than manage drag.
In addition to such styling essentials as Scuderia fender shields, black exhaust outlets, a carbon under-windshield insert and gloss carbon fiber exterior sill covers, the 296 GTB’s curvaceous exterior also incorporates functionality in the form of adaptive matrix LED headlights, electrochromic mirrors, back radar and front parking sensors, front end lift, and surround view. Designed to elevate the driving experience to a whole new level, the interior features highly supportive carbon fiber racing seats with centers in Alcantara and Prancing Horse headrest embroidery, a gloss carbon fiber steering wheel, and gloss carbon front tunnel and dash inserts.
