The Bugatti Chiron is currently the fastest car in the world. That statement is neither a hyperbole nor opinion; for owners of any other hypercar, it’s simply the daunting reality. Powered by a massive 8.0L W-16 engine producing an astonishing 1,479 HP and 1,180 lb-ft of torque, the Chiron achieves stratospheric performance without the assistance of auxiliary electric-drive motors featured in the current genre of hypercars, such as the Ferrari LaFerrari and the Porsche 918. The Chiron relies on large displacement—8 liters—and forced induction via four turbochargers to realize its terminal-velocity top speed of 261 MPH.
Ironically, the Chiron is electronically limited to 261 MPH with credible sources citing 288 MPH as its true top speed, a claim that Bugatti has neither confirmed nor denied. However, it would be overly simplistic to characterize the Chiron purely based on its amazing acceleration and top speed. It is the way the Chiron gracefully harnesses and applies this overly generous serving of power that makes it such a delight to drive. Traction is distributed through all-wheel-drive with front-axle torque-transfer differential and rear-axle traverse differential lock. Power is transmitted through a DSG 7-speed twin-clutch gearbox. The driver can choose between five selectable driving modes.
This enables the Chiron to behave in a docile manner in city traffic or morph into an aggressive race-car persona at a turn of a switch, all made possible by Bugatti’s electronic stability-control, traction-control and launch-control systems. This 2018 Bugatti Chiron is a stunning presentation in its two-tone Atlantic Blue and French Racing Blue color scheme contrasted with diamond-cut Blue Classique wheels. The interior is richly appointed with Beluga Black comfort seats with deviating French Racing Blue stitching. This Bugatti Chiron is one of just 70 examples planned for production in model-year 2018.
