The David Brown organisation's takeover of Lagonda in 1947 allowed production of the latter's all-new W.O Bentley-designed model to commence the following year, and at the same time made Lagonda's 2.6-Litre twin-cam six available for the new Aston Martin.

An advanced design employing a cruciform-braced chassis and all-round independent suspension, the Lagonda was available as a saloon or fixed & drophead coupé, both with coachbuilt bodies, while the interior with its leather upholstery, plentiful walnut and quality fittings stood comparison with that of the very best in the luxury car class.

In 1953 the engine was enlarged to 3.0-Litre and in this form the luxurious Lagonda continued in production until 1958, by which time 270 3.0-Litre models of all types had been made.

This Lagonda 3.0-Litre was purchased new in 1956 by one M. Whitaker, a British citizen living in Montreux - Switzerland, and was supplied by Limmat Garage AG, Jos Stierli & Co of Zürich.

The car is part of the private collection belonging to Claude Nobs, founder and organiser of the Montreux Jazz Festival, who is believed to have acquired it in 1962.

Mr Nobs began to use his Lagonda to pick up the Festival's performers at Geneva Airport. He collected the Rolling Stones in 1964 for their show in Montreux, as well as Petula Clark, Erroll Garner (in 1966, for 'La Rose d'Or') and Aretha Franklin in 1968.

Other superstars who have graced this Lagonda's rear seats include Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Oscar Peterson, Nina Simone, David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, etc. A TV Suisse Romande video shows Ella Fitzgerald alighting from the Lagonda.

Finished in two-tone silver grey/raspberry with grey leather interior, this uniquely historic Lagonda 3.0-Litre is offered with its instruction book, sundry service invoices, a certificate of authenticity established by the Claude Nobs Foundation and Swiss Carte Grise.

Recently serviced, the car is ready to use.

Aston Martin Lagonda 3 Litre 1956

Châssis n° LB/290/1/184

Moteur n° VB6H/606
