Hitting the market in 1976, the Lagonda stopped traffic dead. There was nothing else like it on the road at the time. With a design straight from the future, William Towns’ crisp, linear “flying wedge” styling covered a powerful twin-cam V-8 and advanced chassis beneath. In particular, the Lagonda was lauded for its early use of fully digital instrumentation, including touch-screen dashboard controls.

In 1987, Towns agreed to come back to Aston Martin to give the Lagonda wedge design a facelift in preparation for the model’s 1990 retirement. The resulting model, nicknamed the Series 4, lasted for a total production run of 105 examples – one such example is on offer today. Delivered new to Japan, chassis 13623 has the characteristic Series 4 fixed headlights, which replaced the dated popup lights. Also seen are the new 16-in. Wolfrace alloy wheels. Build records on file show that chassis 13623 remains in the original colours of British Racing Green with Parchment trim and Olive carpet.

This original Japanese-delivery example would be an excellent addition to any Aston Martin collection, representing one of the most advanced and modern sedans to come out of England in the 1980s.

A son lancement en 1976, la Lagonda a sidéré le marché. Il n'existait alors rien de tel sur la route. Son style venu du futur, dû à William Towns, présentait une ligne en coin parfaitement rectiligne qui hébergeait un puissant V8 double arbre et un châssis perfectionné. La Lagonda fut entre autres encensée pour son instrumentation novatrice, totalement numérique, qui incluait un écran tactile au tableau de bord.

En 1987, Towns accepta de revenir chez Aston Martin pour moderniser la ligne en coin de la Lagonda, en préparation de sa fin de production, prévue pour 1990. Ce travail déboucha sur la Série 4, qui fut produite à 105 exemplaires, dont l'un est proposé aujourd'hui. Le châssis 13623, livré neuf au Japon, arbore les projecteurs fixes caractéristiques de la Série 4, qui avaient remplacé les projecteurs escamotables, démodés. Il est par ailleurs équipé des roues alliage Wolfrace de 16 pouces. Son historique de construction, présent au dossier, montre qu'il a toujours ses coloris d'origine, une carrosserie vert British Racing et un intérieur Parchemin avec tapis Olive.

Cet exemplaire d'origine, livré au Japon, constituerait un excellent apport à toute collection d'Aston Martin ; il représente l'une des berlines le plus modernes et les plus évoluées produites en Angleterre pendant les années 1980.
